winter blizzard Stella put a monkey wrench in our plans, but we will be back next week.  the library rescheduled our meeting for tuesday march 21 in the childrens room 6:30 pm at the abington community library.  hopefully everyone will be dug out and back on track!

our february meeting was  friday feb 10th.   24 members present.  maggie miller was unable to attend.  the meeting was run by renee czubowicz. guest speaker chris maxwell from wildcreekbees  gave a presentation about keeping your bees healthy, he addressed mite issues and how he controls them. information was available to order nucs from chris, and 12 nucs were ordered- club member elaine jackson and her husband ron will be picking up nuc orders in may.   price is as  follows $165 plus $8 nuc box plus $2 marked queen.  next meeting is tues march 14th -630 pm.  topic will be bringing your bees into spring and discussing winter losses.

 remember  to include that you are part of the LBBC order and you must have a cardboard nuc ordered if elaine is  picking up your bees.  you must get your bees from elaine when she brings them home to falls.

hello beekeepers-

once again this blog isnt very active, the majority of our info is at our facebook page. and the best way to reach us is at lackawannabackyardbeekeepers@gmail.com

happy new year! kicking off the new year is the january meeting- fri jan 13 6:30 in the ryon room at the abington community library. this meeting is geared toward those thinking about keeping bees-very basics for new beekeepers-choosing a hive, bear protection, etc. all are welcome to attend, but it may be a bit repetitive for those with more experience. we are asking $5 donation that will go to the abington community library.


for february, our meeting is friday february 10th 6:30 - we have a speaker coming in from wild creek bees they are an apiary in the Lehighton, PA.

chris asked me what sort of topic we would like- here are some choices- keeping your bees alive ( always a good one), managing your bees, northern stock bees, mite control, or if you have something in mind send me an email and ill ask. we will go with what the majority wants.

April meeting

Hi everyone- the April meeting will not be able to be held the second Thursday in April at 6:30- the room is being used by the library.
The April meeting will still be in the Ryon room at the abington community library. Please be aware of the the date change to Tuesday April 12th at 6:30 pm. We also have Earth Day events scheduled at the Steamtown Mall in Scranton, PA on April 16th 12-4 pm and at Everything Natural in Clarks Summit, PA on April 23 from 11-3 pm. We will have some bee info and our observation hive if the bees cooperate! Think Spring!

LBB Meeting June 2014

The Lackawanna Backyard Beekeepers will meet on Thursday, June 19th, 6:30pm, at the Abington Community Library.  We will open with roundtable discussion and then show a Brushy Mountain training video titled "Requeening and Colony Division." We have a number of beeks now scrambling for queens. A lot of breeders are sold out now, so it's hit and miss on acquiring one the easy way, but we will strive to have some supplier info on hand as well.

Opening LBB Meeting Scheduled for January 21, 2014

Welcome to the 2014 beekeeping season! Our first meeting of the year will be TUESDAY, JANUARY 21ST, 6:30PM, at the ABINGTON COMMUNITY LIBRARY, in the RYON ROOM. If you are looking to start beekeeping this year, DO NOT MISS THIS MEETING. You will learn about ordering bees, where to get them, which bees are the best bees for you, as well as pricing. We will also be taking a show of hands for a springtime beginner beekeeper class. As always, our meetings are free and open to the public. Our February meeting (February 13) puts us back on our second-Thursday-of-the-month schedule.

January 2014 LBB Meeting

April LBB Meeting

The April LBB Meeting will be held on Thursday, April 11th, 6:30pm, at the Abington Community Library in the Children's Reading Room.  Go straight to the back of the library and make a left.  Free and open to the public.  Open for discussion will be Clarks Summit's Earth Day celebration, our May field trip, and the arrival of bee packages.

March LBB Meeting

The March meeting of the Lackawanna Backyard Beekeepers is Thursday, March 14, 2013.  Guest speaker will be Phyllis Reinhardt of the Penn State Master Gardeners.  Phyllis will be talking about Pollinator Gardening.  Meeting starts at 6:30pm at the Abington Community Library (Ryon Room), 1200 W. Grove Street, Clarks Summit.  Free and open to the public.

February LBB Meeting

February's LBB meeting will be held at the Abington Community Library (1200 W. Grove Street, Clarks Summit) on February 7th, 6:30pm, in the Children's Story Room.  Please note the venue change from Everything Natural.  We will continue to meet at the library, preferably on the 2nd Thursday of each month.  We are unable to schedule more than a month ahead with the library, however, so please check back regularly on this website or our Facebook page to stay up to date on meeting times.  LBB meetings are free and open to the public!

First LBB Meeting 2013

Welcome to the 2013 beekeeping season! Our first meeting of the year will be this Thursday, January 10th, 6pm, at Everything Natural in Clarks Summit. If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper this year, PLEASE make it a point to attend this meeting as we will be establishing the timeline for ordering bee packages for this spring’s arrival and taking suggestions/gauging interest in hosting a February Beginner Beekeeper Workshop. For our more seasoned beekeepers, we will also be discussing protocol for this year’s swarm season, which we expect to be even busier than last year due to club recognition.
